Eugene P. Dinkel

Eugene Pius Dinkel, age 73, of Cave Junction, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at his home.

No services are planned. Southern Oregon Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.

He was born on February 26, 1935 in Victoria, Kansas to John Dinkel & Anna Leiker Dinkel. In 1958 in California he married Esther “Lorraine” Kennedy who died in 1974. He then married Ellen Chamberlain and they later divorced but remained friends. He had three children from his first marriage and four stepchildren from his second marriage. As a young man, he worked in the oil fields of Kansas and Texas. In 1968 he moved to the Illinois Valley where he worked for Rough & Ready and M & Y Lumber Mills. At the time of his retirement he was a self-employed flatbed truck driver and lived in Grants Pass. In January 2008 he moved back to Cave Junction to live with his daughter due to illness.

His hobbies included horseshoes, cribbage, dominos, going to Seven Feathers and spending time with family.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Dickson of Cave Junction and Anna Pendergrass of Brush Prairie, Washington; a son, Daniel Dinkel of Grants Pass; his former wife; three step-children; and two grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Lorraine, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Shoemaker and Margaret Schultz; his parents and a step-son.
