Emma Jane Rogers

EMMA JANE SEELEY ROGERS, age 86, of Grants Pass, died April 27, 2008 at her home.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 12:00 o’clock Noon, Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 5, 2008 at St. Anne Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Emma Jane Seeley Rogers was born August 28, 1921, in Bull Run, Clackamas County, Oregon, to Andrew Stewart Seeley and Daisy Odell. She was their third child, joining sister. Virginia and brother Stewart. Her sister, Juanita was the last child of the family.

Emma Jane grew up and finished school in the countryside surrounding Portland, Oregon. She learned to make the best of circumstances, even when less than ideal. She developed cheerful and positive ways which were endearing to all.

A great sense of humor was Jane’s endearing traits. Her laughter had a pleasant sound. She enjoyed a humorous story, and she was always in the middle of reading a good book.

Displays of fireworks and blowing horns was a favorite.

Emma Jane Seeley met Paul Edward Rogers, and they were married in Portland, Oregon, July 4, 1940.
The world was soon enveloped in war, and, Paul served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot of B-29’s, during World War II.

At the conclusion of the war, Jane and Paul returned to Portland, Oregon, where they lived and raised their family until they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon in 1967, and there settled on Soldier Creek Road.
Paul Rogers was employed by Pacific Northwest Bell from 1946 until his retirement.

Jane and Paul were lifelong members of the Catholic Church.
Jane was member of St. Anne’s Altar Society, in Grants Pass.

Service was an important part of Janes’ life. She joined the Pink Ladies Auxiliary of the Josephine Memorial Hospital, and from 1973 to 1974 she served as President of that organization. She participated in its many activities, including the publication of their well known Pink Ladies’ Cookbook. Jane was also a lifetime member of the Three Rivers Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Along with her husband, she was an avid gardener, and always maintained a prolific flower and vegetable garden, sharing its produce with others.

A great sense of humor was another of Jane’s endearing traits.

At the close of her life, Jane was well cared for by loving family members, including her granddaughter Samantha.

Emma Jane Rogers has left a legacy of love, kindness and joy for her family to remember, forever.
