January 5, 1929 — January 24, 2008

Emily Young, age 79, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, January 24, 2008 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

A visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., on Friday, February 8, 2008 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Pastor Jim Brumbach officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Emily was born January 5, 1929 in Pasadena, California to Howard & Fern Ferris, the youngest of five children. As a child, she enjoyed playing the violin with her brother Glenn. After graduating from high school and business college, she married Richard Young in 1947. They moved to Massachusetts during his duty in the Coast Guard. After discharge, they moved back to California and settled in Whittier where she was a fulltime mother and raised four children. After the children were grown, she traveled with her husband on business trips all over the world, with such destinations as Japan, though her favorite was Hawaii. In 2001 they moved to Grants Pass.

Emily enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and loved entertaining in her home. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren. They loved all the special treats she would miraculously produce from a closet for them that she had picked up on her many shopping excursions.

Emily continually thought of others’ needs before her own. In fact, her kindness and selflessness were a great example to all.

Emily is survived by her children and their spouses, Marjorie Kagay of Grants Pass, Beverly Grim of Grants Pass, David Young of La Habra, California and Randy Young of Laguna Niguel, California; her sister, Ruby Hart of Long Beach, California; her brother, Glenn Ferris of Pasadena, California; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Young; grandson, Matthew Young; sister, Helen Oliver; and brother, George Ferris.

Emily was a mighty prayer warrior and servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. Her strong faith in the Lord of the Resurrection caused her to look forward to her heavenly home. She will be greatly missed.
