Ella May Douglas

Ella May Douglas, age 85, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Ella May loved her Savior Jesus Christ who took her home.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 3, 2010 at Rogue Lea Estates Clubhouse. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Ella May was born September 12, 1924 in Bend, Oregon to Claire J. Douglas & Laura Belle (Robinson) Douglas. In 1942 she graduated from Bend High School where she played the glockenspiel in the marching band. Ella May supported the World War II effort as an on-base civilian office staff person. She later worked as a private secretary for various firms including Parke-Davis in Palo Alto, California; Bristol Silica plant in Rogue River (where the freeway interchange is now); and Skagit Equipment in Sedro Woolley, Washington. In 1990 she moved from Rogue River to Grants Pass.

Ella May was a member of American Business Women’s Association.

She was an Oregon Lifespan respite volunteer; a foster Grandma in elementary schools; and a volunteer with the handicapped parking patrol.

Her hobbies included playing piano; various crafts; sewing; plants; and talking with family, friends, and neighbors.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynda Leamy and her husband Michael Leamy of Astoria, Oregon; three grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Claire J. Douglas Jr.
