Elizabeth "Arlene" Sadler

February 9, 1918 — April 16, 2011

Elizabeth “Arlene” Sadler, age 93, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at her home.

No services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Arlene was born February 9, 1918 in Nashua, New Hampshire to Joseph & Elizabeth Attridge. During World War II she moved to California where she met her husband, Denny of 63 years. While in California she was a Girl Scout leader and trainer, worked at the Braille Institute, and worked and managed a nursery. She was called “the plant doctor” as she would travel to the homes of stars, such as Rock Hudson, to diagnose plants. In 1984 after her husband retired from Sunkist Growers, they moved from Simi Valley, California to Grants Pass. In Grants Pass Arlene enjoyed retirement and continued with her gardening and volunteered with 4-H mini meals, humane society, Gospel Rescue Mission, Josephine County Library, and Jerome Prairie School special education class.

She was a member of the Jerome Prairie Extension Group.

Arlene loved gardening, birds, and reading and enjoyed cooking with family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Maureen MacGregor and husband, Christopher of Grants Pass, Oregon; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Erin and Colleen Muir; two grandsons, Ian Patrick and Lance Essex; a sister, Jane Sijan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death in 1987 was a daughter, Sharon.

Arlene was a great Mom and example and will be missed by all.
