Eldgie Buddy Carrel

October 5, 1931 — March 30, 2013

Eldgie Buddy Carrel, age 81, of Cave Junction, died Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a short illness.

At his request, there will be no services. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

He was born October 5, 1931 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Harold & Florence Carrel. At one year of age, the family moved to Redding, California where he grew up and graduated from Shasta High School. At age 17 he joined the United States Army and served in Korea and Japan. While in Japan they built the road to Mt Fuji and he also climbed to the top of the mountain. He worked for P.G.& E. in California for 14 years and also volunteered with the Enterprise Fire Department when it first started. In 1982 he married his wife, Nancy at the Redding Moose Lodge #1006 where he was a past Governor. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver and retired from B and J Paving. In 1997 he moved to Cave Junction.

Bud enjoyed helping people and working in his shop and loved wildlife and nature. He was guy that was “one in a million” and will be missed by all.

In addition to his wife, Nancy Carrel of Cave Junction, Oregon; survivors include a daughter, Ella May of Virginia; a son, Kenneth of Japan; a brother, Welton Carrel and wife Judith; a cousin, Kevin Carrel and wife Cleona; and an aunt, Dorothy Callas all of Redding, California; a sister, Diana Martin of Lemore, California; and a brother-in-law, Reginald Petrie of Vallejo, California.
