Edward Charles Baxter

Edward Charles Baxter, age 95, of Grants Pass, died Monday, November 1, 2010 at his home.

No services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Ed was born September 14, 1915 in Saline County, Arkansas to David Crockett & Mary Viola Baxter. In 1927 he moved to Maywood, California. On December 5, 1938 in Los Angeles, California he married Wanda G. Riley. Ed drove cattle and tanker trucks for Evans Tank Lines in Southern California until he was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps in 1945. After an honorable discharge from the military, he worked as a machinist with Overmeyer Mold Company until 1963. He then returned to driving long haul trucks with Golden West Rubber Company until his retirement in 1976. In 1980 Ed and Wanda moved to Redding, California and in 2004 moved to Hemet, California. After moving to Grants Pass in 2009 they lived at Spring Village Assisted Living. Ed really loved his new home here in Oregon and made many new friends in the short period of time that he had here.

Ed was a member of the Brothers of America and Loyal Order of Moose both in Redding, California.

In his early years, he volunteered as a Boy Scouts of America Scout Master.

His hobbies included hiking, camping, fishing, mechanical work and woodworking. He and Wanda were also full-time snowbirds for about seven years.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda G. Baxter of Grants Pass, Oregon; a son, Raymond Baxter and his wife, Kathy of Sunny Valley, Oregon; a daughter, Carolyn L. Campbell of La Quinta, California; six grandchildren, Kimberlee Brown, Brenda Baxter, Edward Campbell, Damon Baxter, Kenneth Baxter, and Kristina Merritt; and five great-grandchildren, Samantha Baxter, Joshua Brown, Alex Baxter, Dillon Aikins, and Cooper Merritt.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey Baxter and a son, Dennis Edward Baxter.
