Edmond Berton Putman Jr, age 90, of Grants Pass, died June 13, 2020 at his home.

Edmond was born March 10, 1930 in Santa Ana, California to Mr. & Mrs. Edmond B. Putman. The family moved to Oregon in 1934 and Ed graduated from Grants Pass High School with the Class of 1949. He then joined the United States Navy. While stationed in Memphis, Tennessee for two years he became engaged to Nancy Stansfield and they were married in June 1951. In 1952 at the Navy Hospital in Memphis they had their first-born Deborah. Ed was then transferred to Jacksonville, Florida for two years and was assigned to the USS Hornet and the USS Bennington for sea duty to Guantanamo Bay, Cut and Port-au-Prince, Haiti. After his honorable discharge, they returned to Grants Pass and bought a home and had the birth of another baby girl, Gail on July 4, 1956. Ed retired after a 27-year Letter Carrier. He lived in the same home until his death.

Over the years, Ed was involved at different times in the community as a member of the Grants Pass Elks, Chamber of Commerce, Knife & Fork Club, and Colonial Valley Golf. He was also an active member of Newman United Methodist Church serving on many committees, ushering, men’s breakfast club, fish program for 15 years, and the choir from 1974 to 2010.

Ed especially enjoyed traveling with Nancy and visited all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands. His hobbies included motorcycling, golf, square dancing, cruises, and RVing with his kids and grandkids annually to the Oregon coast.

Ed is survived by his wife, Nancy Putman; daughter Debbie Washburn; three grandchildren Dan (Debbie) Washburn, Jeromie (Becky) Nutting, and Nealy (Jared) Wheeler; and eight great-grandchildren.

Ed and Nancy lost their daughter Gail Nutting to cancer in 1998; Ed’s brothers J.D. Putman and Bill Putman and sister Mary Ricey.
