Dwayne Clay Wood

August 19, 1930 — February 20, 2010

Dwayne Clay Wood, age 79, of Cave Junction, died Saturday, February 20, 2010 in Selma.

A memorial service will be at 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2010 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2400 Laurel Road, Cave Junction. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Dwayne was born August 19, 1930 in Fletcher, Oklahoma to Owen & Mary Gertrude Wood. In 1948 he moved from California to the Illinois Valley. During the Korean Conflict he served in the United States Army and was awarded two bronze stars. On November 22, 1956 in Reno, Nevada he married Permelia Sturgis. Dwayne worked in local sawmills for 45 years including, Wamitch Lumber Company, Cabax, and Rough and Ready.

He was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Cave Junction congregation since 1961.

His hobbies included woodworking, flea markets, and socializing.

Survivors include two sons, Mickeal R. Wood of Keizer, Oregon and Steven T. Wood of Wasilla, Alaska; a sister, Betty Steward of Cave Junction; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Permelia Wood on December 6, 2009.
