Doug Simpson, age 86, of Grants Pass, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Royale Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center.

No services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

He was born June 5, 1922 in N. Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada, he moved with his family to Pasadena, California while a young boy. Completing Pasadena schools, he volunteered to serve his new country as a soldier and a communications expert throughout the European campaign. His efforts resulted in US citizenship and a deep loyalty to his new country.
As many young men of his time, Doug put his energy and dedication to serving in the post war industrial boom serving in various engineering positions in the Southland.
Raising 5 children in Long Beach, California; Doug''s dedication extended to supporting the youth of the community, serving in a number of capacities for St Joseph''s Boy Scout Troop, Catholic boys baseball, St Joseph''s parish and wherever Fr. Martin needed.
Founding St. Joseph''s Boy Scout troop, his campouts were legend for exploring the wide variety of California wilderness, his use of beer in the pancakes and the high achievements of his scouts.
Doug was a recipient of the Silver Beaver award, achieved certification as a Professional Engineer, and served civically for Josephine County in Oregon.

The family wishes to thank the staff of both the Suites Assisted Living Center, and the Royale Gardens for their caring support and extraordinary dedication to supporting our father during his stay.

He leaves to the world a legacy of 5 children (Larry, Alan, Ginger, Roger, Richard), 7 grandchildren (Keith, Kim, Jim, Kris, Scott, Eric, Christopher) and 4 great grandchildren (Adrienne, Zachary, Samantha, Sophia). Also survived by his sister Elizabeth, numerous nieces, nephews, and a large extended family and so many friends from the Long Beach and Grants Pass communities.
