Dorothy Mae Robinson Costa

Dorothy Mae Robinson Costa of Grants Pass, Oregon since 1997, passed away on August 17, 2011 at the Wings of Love Senior Care facility. Dorothy was born on January 26, 1913 in Sacramento, CA. She was the middle girl of 12 children (two sets of twins). At the age of 21, Dorothy married George John Costa on August 7, 1934 & lived in San Francisco for 17 yrs then they moved to Martha Lake, WA where they lived for 47 years, they were married for 62 years when George preceded her in death in January, 1997.

Dorothy graduated one of the top 5 in her 500 member high school graduating class at Sacto High. Dorothy majored in art in College, was a beauty operator, attended countless writing classes through out her life, including classes in journalism, she also worked as a reporter for several local newspapers in the Lynnwood, WA area, but first & foremost was a homemaker. She was always interested in a healthy lifestyle. Her & George planted a huge garden every year and raised her children on healthy home grown produce, fruits and berries. She canned and dried food each year.

Her hobbies were writing, painting, sewing & gardening. She was an extra in two movies, one of which was filmed in Seattle, WA titled: “It Happened At the Worlds Fair” with Elvis Presley, in 1962. And in her senior years after her husband passed, she would entertain her church members by participating and “starring” in local church plays. She loved dressing up and role playing. She was an excellent story teller.

She was a dedicated Christian and loved supporting several missionaries who also became dear friends. At the age of 89, she obtained her first computer, attended computer classes at Rascals & at age 92, she published her first book, titled, “Follow A Faint Trail”. Dorothy was the Mother of 6 (1 set of twins), Grandmother of 20, Great Grandmother of 29.

Survived by her younger sister, Leona Deloca of San Rafel, CA, her son Everett Costa of Merlin, OR, her daughters Peg Soma of Kent, WA, Bonnie Wagner of San Diego, CA & Bobbi Shaw of Grants Pass, OR.

A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Grants Pass Community Church, 3191 Russell Road, Grants Pass, Oregon 97526. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangments.
