Dorothy Isabel Fulsaas Recker

September 24, 1925 — July 5, 2014

Dorothy Isabel Fulsaas Recker, age 88, of Grants Pass, passed away on the evening of July 4, 2014 from natural causes.

Services to be held in the hearts of those who loved her. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy was born September 24, 1925 in Nebraska, where she met her husband, Louis John Recker. Together they moved to Long Beach, California, where they raised their family.

Dorothy was a very creative, sports loving, people loving person. This was evident in all the things she did. She designed and built a scale model of a Catholic Church out of plaster of paris which was widely admired in the neighborhood. She demonstrated her sewing and upholstering skills by diamond pleating the interior of Ron’s English sports car; and she showed her creative side in the kitchen by making the most delicious friend chicken, chicken Kiev, and homemade doughnuts ever! Friends and family were always ready to sit at Dorothy’s table!

Dorothy was supportive of her children in many of their endeavors. She brought up two sons who were competing in a men’s bowling league while still in high school. She strongly encouraged higher education. Her oldest son attended college to eventually become an engineer, while her younger son received his education in the US Navy, serving his country in Vietnam. Without Dorothy’s support, this could not take place.

One important aspect of Dorothy’s personality was that she loved people. She could often be seen accompanying her sons to the bowling alley cheering them on. Often times she would take a Jr bowler who was hungry and out of cash, and provide him with a big juicy hamburger. She enjoyed lively debates with local Long Beach politicians and never turned down an opportunity to discuss Catholicism and faith with the Catholic bishops. She was quite the debater.

As for sports, Dorothy was the top poker player in our house, and though it was an honor to try for a winning hand against her, it rarely happened! She also enjoyed fishing and once caught a gigantic carp and catfish from the local pond in Long Beach. What a woman!

Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Jerome Ernest Recker of Placentia, California and Ronald Louis Recker of Grants Pass, Oregon; four grandchildren, Rebecca Lynett and Kathryn Ann both of Placentia, California and Lisa Dawn and Angela G both of Grants Pass, Oregon.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Louis John Recker.

Though there are many aspects and talents that make up Dorothy, the most important one to me is that she was my mother and the most wonderful mother a boy could have. She will be deeply missed.
