Donald Miles "Don" Little

Donald Miles “Don” Little, age 91, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 5, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church in Rogue River with Pastor Percy and Pastor Nibblett officiating. Interment with military honors will be at follow at 1:00 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Don was born September 17, 1918 in Bedford, Iowa to Harry & Geraldine Little. In 1929 he moved to Huntington Park, California and attended Compton College for two years. He then worked as a machinist for two years while living in Alaska. After the bombing at Dutch Harbor, Alaska in June 1942, he returned to Los Angeles and worked in the shipyards until enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps later that year. He then attended Jefferson College for cadet training. During World War II he flew B24s as an engineer for three years until his honorable discharge in February 1946. In 1945 he met and later married Grace Coulter. They eventually moved to California in 1946 and settled in Santa Clara. Don worked as millwright and later worked as project manager for Eichleay Construction for 18 years. He then formed his own construction company in Santa Clara which was destroyed by fire in 1961. In 1981 he retired to San Diego and in 1987 moved to Grants Pass. While in Grants Pass he continued doing home construction until 1995 when a stroke forced him into retirement again. He recovered from the first stroke, but in 2005 had a second stroke on the opposite side, and after recovering somewhat was limited to walking 2-5 miles for activity.

Don was active at Faith Lutheran Church in Rogue River and served as church treasurer.

He loved hunting, fishing, and golfing.

In addition to his wife, Grace Little of Grants Pass; he is survived by a daughter, Diane Little of Pioneer, California; and a grandson, Bobby Davis of Grants Pass.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Davis in 2005 and a great-grandson, Dakota Davis in 2007.
