Donald H. Davis

July 16, 1911 — June 14, 2008

Donald Henry Davis, life long resident of Wallowa County, passed away on June 14 2008 at Royal Gardens Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass.
He had been staying in Grants Pass with his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and
Roger Makin since the passing of his wife, Leola, of nearly 65 years, in 2003
A President McKinley land grant dated 1887 established the ranch where Donald was born to the late A. E. and Merta (Beecher) Davis in 1911 in the house that is still in use on the Davis property today. When Donald took over the operation of the ranch, he met and married his wife, Leola, a local schoolteacher, in December of 1938, then set up and ran the dairy ranch until he retired. He was active in the IOOF and was possibly the oldest, as well as the longest active member in the State organization. Hurricane Creek Grange membership was another choice of activities as well as the once popular Square Dance Club and local Rock Club.
His parents, wife, 2 brothers, 4 nieces and nephews and many other close family members preceded him in death. Families left behind include: Daughter, Lynn and Roger Makin, Son, Keith and Jan Davis, all of Grants Pass, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Cremation was his choice and he will be returned to his beloved Wallowa County at a later date for interment. A celebration of his life may be planned at that time.
