Donald E. Spargur

October 22, 1925 — February 25, 2007

Born at home on October 22, 1925 in Lincoln Acres, California. Don led an adventurous life until he joined the US Army and was trained as a mechanic during WW II. After discharge from active duty he joined the Navy Reserves. In 1947 he married Betty Lou Perry of Hollywood, California. In 1951 he was called to active duty with the US Navy for the Korean War. Working as a boilermate, he served his tour on the USS Cape Esperance and the USS Kennebeck. Discharged once again in 1952 Don became the civilian safety inspector at Pt Mugu Naval Air Warfare Weapons Station until his retirement in 1980. He finished his working career as an air freight truck driver in the Los Angeles area and moved to Medford in 1989 with his wife Betty. His favorite hobbies were looking at maps and traveling the world by freighter. Don was known for his vast knowledge of piston engines, auto and aviation, as well as the incredible joy he displayed laughing at his own jokes. Don is survived by his wife, Betty Spargur of Medford; daughter Debbie Mailho of Rogue River, son Perry Spargur of Medford; two sisters, Nita Baker of Salem, Oregon and Betty Jo Hackford of Rangely, Colorado. Don Spargur leaves happy memories for his five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Oregon Affiliate, 1425 NE Irving #100, Portland OR 97232-4201.

Private interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull and Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
