Donald Corbett

December 2, 1933 — January 12, 2015

Donald Corbett, BA, MA, ARCT, 81, died Monday, January 12, 2015 at his home in Grants Pass, Oregon.

He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline Corbett for 48 years.

For the past seven years he was the organist at Grants Pass’ St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

A native of Canada, Corbett received his initial musical training and degree from the Royal Conservatory in music at Toronto. He later earned a Master’s degree from California State University, Long Beach. While living in Toronto and the Long Beach areas, he played the organ for the United Church of Canada and Episcopalian churches. He then studied under Richard Purvis, the chief organist and choir director of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.

In the early 1980s Don, Jacqueline and their daughter Katherine settled in Temecula, California where Don began his long and meaningful relationship with their church family of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Fallbrook, California. He was the organist there for 26 years before retiring to Oregon.

Don once said “my intent has always been to play for the ‘Glory of God,’ and not for my personal credibility. Moreover, I can only hope that his motivation has provided some blessing, and comfort through my music ministry.”

Through his music Don Corbett touched many souls with love and spiritual fellowship. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with Father Todd Young officiating.
