Former Grants Pass resident, Dolores Anne Hale, age 81, of Portland, died Thursday, December 1, 2011 at her home.

A recitation of the rosary will be 12:30 p.m., Friday, December 9, 2011 at St. Anne Catholic Church.

A funeral mass will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 9, 2011 at St. Anne Catholic Church with Father Mike Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Anne was born June 8, 1930 in Craig, Colorado to George & Florence Miller. In 1952 she married her husband, James Hale. They moved to Grants Pass to establish a medical lab and raise their children. For many years she was the receptionist and bookkeeper at the lab.

Anne was a lifelong Catholic and was proud of the education she received from the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Theresa’s in Boise, Idaho. She was a person of strong faith and was for many years a parishioner at St. Anne’s in Grants Pass. She was involved in various Catholic associations and apostolates, including Legion of Mary and the Perpetual Adoration Society.

Anne enjoyed literature and could recite from memory passages from the poetry of her favorite authors. She wrote articles for several regional magazines after taking a writing class at Rogue Community College. She also enjoyed music, nature, and camping.

She is survived by her brother, Joe Miller of Scotts Valley, California; her four children, Suzanne Denning of Salem, Oregon, Jennifer Roney of Milwaukie, Oregon, Becky Hale of Portland, Oregon and James Hale of Grants Pass, Oregon; a stepson, Arthur Hale of Boise, Idaho; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Hale and her daughter Rosemary Gade.
