David R. Peters, age 65, of Rogue River, died September 23, 2021 at his home.
A celebration of life gathering of family and friends will be from 12 noon to 4:00 pm, Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Griffin Park.
He was born David Randolph Peters on June 26, 1956 on the Army Base at Fort Ord, California to Henry and Maxine (Schiermeyer) Peters.
David graduated from Rogue River High School in 1974. In 1976, he married Joyce Hopkins in Nevada in a double wedding with his younger sister, Cerella and her husband. David adopted Joyce’s five year old son, David J. Peters, and Daniel was born in 1977.
In 1978, David graduated from Rogue Community College with an Associate Of Science in Accounting. His employment included ECS and in 1981 his son Matthew was born. In the mid-80s, he began working for LTM (now Kniferiver). His marriage to Joyce ended in divorce.
Later, he met Cristy and invited her to go rafting in 1991, and on June 26, 1999 David and Cristy were married at Griffin Park near the Rogue River they loved to raft.
He started working for Medford Irrigation in April 2007 and enjoyed his work there until the day he passed away.
His hobbies included rafting, fishing, hiking, camping, and watching NFL football games and Western TV shows.
Survivors include his wife Cristy of Rogue River; three sons David of Glendale Oregon, Daniel of Vancouver, Washington, and Matthew of Pharr, Texas; stepsons John Ray of Vancouver, Washington and Norman Ray of Central Point, Oregon; stepdaughter Jackie Mitchell of Grants Pass; in 2015 Cristy and David became legal guardians of Morgan of Rogue River; former spouse Joyce Allen of Grants Pass; sisters Cerella Powell of Medford, Oregon and Julie Peters of Portland, Oregon; brothers John Peters of Grants Pass and Nick Peters of Grants Pass; seven grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his uncle Jean Peters and sister Marcia Nandelman-Lorber; and two nephews.
