Curtis Junior Miller

June 14, 1926 — January 5, 2009

Curtis Junior Miller, 82, of 1301 N.E. Parkdale Rd., Grants Pass was called to his Heavenly Father on 5 Jan 2009. He had been a resident of Grants Pass for about 30 years.

He was the son of Arnold Curtis Miller and Siothia “Fannie” Goodpasture. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on 14 Jun 1926, he grew up in Louisville, Kentucky.

He survived a serious childhood injury which resulted in the amputation of a leg and damage to his heart. Because of these injuries he was ineligible to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces during WWII. However, he did serve his country in the war effort as a member of the Army Transport Service, traveling by sea to Switzerland, England, Ireland and Portugal.

He held a number of jobs, including cameraman at an NBC station in California, before settling into a successful career as an outstanding Certified Prosthetic Orthopedist, fitting amputees with artificial limbs. As an amputee himself he was compassionate toward his patients and understood their pain and difficulty. He worked diligently to enhance their quality of life by creating custom prosthetics for them .He received training in this profession through the University of Kentucky, Northwestern University and New York University.

Curtis was a charming man of keen intellect and curiosity with a delightful, deep, hearty laugh.

He was preceded in death by his beloved and faithful wife of 33 years, Alberta Lois Pullen, whom he married in 1969. He was the beloved brother of four sisters: Frances Stroupe, Nettie Dick, Thelma Doyle, and Betty G. Miller. All of them preceded him in passing from this earthly realm and welcome him to his heavenly home.

He is survived by stepsons Howard Yarbrough, Richard Yarbrough, Douglas Yarbrough and their families.

Also, left to cherish his memory are William A. Stroupe of Frankfort KY, a nephew who was more like a son to Curtis; many nieces and nephews; special friends Mary and Linda; and many other friends.

Interment will be next to his beloved Alberta in Laurel Cemetery, Cave Junction, OR.

Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are handling the arrangements.
