Clayton E. Morgan, age 84, of Grants Pass, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at his home.

A private immediate family gathering will be held to honor Clayton and his late wife Jean. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, Oregon 97239.

Clayton was born August 1, 1924 in Verdel, Nebraska to James R. & Sylvia Morgan. At age six, he moved with his family to Grants Pass. He attended Grants Pass High School and had been active in the class of 1943 reunions. From 1941 to 1957 he served in the served in military including the United States Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, and Army. On May 3, 1953 he married Jean Morgan. He worked for Southern Oregon Plywood for 32 years.

From May 12, 1942 he was a member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2146. He also volunteered with RSVP building handicap ramps for folks in the community with disabilities and made lunches for children at the Boys & Girls Club in Grants Pass.

His hobbies including going for walks with his dog, Duke; carpentry; fishing; hunting; dancing; camping; and having good times with his family and many friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Smith of Grants Pass and Debbie Anderson and husband John of Orange, California; a son, James Steven Morgan of Grants Pass; two sisters, Joyce Holland of Grants Pass and Elaine Splettstoesser of Arroyo Grande, California; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Morgan on October 12, 2002; and two sisters, Margaret Sauer and Faye Bell Griffith.
