Chula Dimattia

Chula DiMattia, age 82, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Three Rivers Medical Center.

She was born Alberta Bernice Martinez January 22, 1933 in Redwood City, California to Frank & Lillian Martinez. She attended Sequoia High School. In 1952, she was Miss Santa Clara County. She was married twice, first to Jack Berard Sr who preceded her in death, then she married Ron DiMattia, who also died before her. For 33 years she was employee number 13 at Hewlett Packard and was one of their first printed circuit board designers. After retirement she owned and operated three restaurants. In 1995 she moved from Sunnyvale, California to Grants Pass.

Her memberships included the Red Hat Society, Grants Pass Garden Club, Grants Pass Dance Club, Colonial Valley Homeowners Association, and Colonial Valley Women’s Club.

Chula was a lifetime giver to different charities and was always the first to volunteer for any cause.

She loved to garden, cooking was her art, and dancing west coast swing was her passion.

Survivors include her son, Jack Berard of Corralitos, California and Grants Pass, Oregon; a grandson, Jesse Satler Berard of Salem, Oregon; brothers, Rich, Bob, Manuel and Chico; and a sister, Frances.

In addition to her husband, Jack; she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Art.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Hull & Hull Chapel. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
