Charlie Bert Maxwell

Charlie Bert Maxwell, age 80, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Pastor James Downing officiating.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Edge Outreach (a Louisville, Kentucky nonprofit organization working in three areas of ministry – a local mission house, local and overseas vision clinics, and generating pure drinking water in developing countries), 1500 Arlington Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky 40206.

Charlie was born August 26, 1927 in Bremerton, Washington to Charles & Anna Maxwell. He grew up in the state of Washington, graduated from Kitsap High School and played professional baseball there. In the mid 1940s he moved to San Fernando Valley, California. He worked as a machinist most of his life and retired at the age of 50 from Hamilton Machine in LaCrescenta, California. He lived in La Crescenta until 1984 when he moved to Grants Pass.

Charlie was a member of Grants Pass Elks Lodge and bowled for their team for many years.

He was a volunteer foster parent for nine years.

His hobbies included baseball, tennis, golf, and bowling.

Survivors include his wife, Marilynn J. Maxwell; a daughter, Debra Ann Maxwell; two stepchildren, Kathy Daniels and Kurt Daniels; three foster children, Monty Johnston, Dolly Jean, and Jim Showalter; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Charlie was preceded in death by a son, Michael Maxwell; three brothers, Cliff Maxwell, Floyd Maxwell, and Richard Maxwell; and a sister, Pearl Rensland.
