Charles H. Baker, age 91, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Oak Lane.

Charles was born August 13, 1916 in Sedro Woolley, Washington to Arthur & Edna (Reed) Baker. From 1933 to 1936 he served in the United States Army. In 1937 Charles married Stella Corona and they later divorced. From 1938 to 1960 he worked as a long haul truck driver. He then studied flight navigation and from 1964 to 1980 he flew cargo aircraft. During the Vietnam War he flew troopers and cargo to the war zone. After the war, he flew cargo from Europe to the United States. In 1966 he moved from Los Angeles to Grants Pass. In 1980 he started C & M Trucking Company hauling lumber.

He belonged to the Civil Air Patrol during the 1980s and 1990s and served as commander and held the rank of Major. He was also a life member of the Elks Club where he ran bingo.

Charles had many interests including model trains and rock and gem hunting.

Survivors include a son, William C. Baker of Los Angeles; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nephews, Danny Baker of Medford and Mike Baker of Seattle; a niece, Melinda Busby of Medford; and a great-niece and great-nephews.
