Self-written Obituary

Charles E. Shipley

August 25, 1931-March 6, 2022

As you read this I’ll be getting my wings fitted. It finally happened, I lost a short battle with old age, but the lord guided me to what was a great life, all things considered.

Shirley and I had a wonderful 58 years of marriage which I blame on Shirley. We had three great boys, Bob, Greg and Randy and their families, including 7 grand kids and 8 great grandkids. At times, all my family has been my personal heroes with their deeds, accomplishments, actions etc. They made me plumb proud.

Through the years we managed to live our lives beyond our means. In the olden days, we made do with what we had and became very frugal (friends called me cheap). We ate a lot of beans, spuds and macaroni when other people weren’t watching. We haven’t paid rent since 1953. We and the banks have been building equities.

I have been to everywhere I wanted to go, did everything I wanted to do, and did as much traveling as was necessary for a happy marriage. I did some serious bowling, played a good game of tennis, had some years playing good golf and some other years enjoying golf. Plus I never lost a bridge game (partners fault if there wasn’t a win).

My attitude in life was to get along with people and situations and day to day activities. It seemed to work out just fine. We had some business successes and had many close friends through the years. This life has been a fine ride.

Later in life, I met a second beautiful person. Sharla has meant so very much to me. She brought me a new family to love, Brenton, Tasha and their 3 children. I was lucky enough to have two wonderful ladies to love.

Now that I’ve gone, I keep thinking of the things I’ll miss, but also of the friends I’ll see in heaven (if I make it). One in particular is Shirley, who got there too soon. I know I’ll miss so many things with my two families; seeing them growing up and have families of their own. I’ll miss my golf course and my bridge club.

I had a fine life. See ya all later.
