Charles Clarence Cowger

Charles Clarence Cowger, age 61, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, November 5, 2016 at his home.

Charlie was born March 28, 1955 in Oakland, California to Joan Elizabeth (Mehigan) Cowger and Clarence Donald Cowger. In 1969 he moved from Hayward, California to Grants Pass and in 1973 graduated from Grants Pass High School. In 2002 he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Southern Oregon University and in 2006 graduated with a Master’s degree from Concordia University. On July 10, 2004, he married Dawn “Jeri” Webb. Charlie was a longtime employee of Spalding & Sons. He later worked with Josephine County Community Corrections; and as an elementary school teacher at Fort Vannoy School and in Central Point.

He belonged to River Valley Community Church.

Charlie enjoyed family, hunting, fishing, camping, sign painting, mentoring kids, fast pitch softball, carving, leather tooling, and horseback riding.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn “Jeri” Cowger of Grants Pass; three children, Nicole Bozena Cowger of Hillsboro, Joshua Donald Cowger and wife Sophie of Newberg, and Liddie Rose Norman of Grants Pass; six grandchildren, Makayla, Elizabeth, Landon, Charley, Charles, and Chase; many nephews and nieces, and four siblings, Larry Cowger of Stockton, California, Jackie Ralph of Cape Coral, Florida, Allen Cowger of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jody Wangsgard of Grants Pass.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2016 at River Valley Community Church with Pastor Chuck Kostrna officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
