Chalton A. Munyon Jr.

December 4, 1926 — January 22, 2015

Chalton A. Munyon Jr., of Glendale, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2015 surrounded by family.

Chalton, better known as ‘Junior’ to family and friends, was 88 years old. Junior was born in Alva, Oklahoma and was the eldest son of 11 children. In August of 1941, the family moved to Oregon.

After arriving in Oregon, at the age of 16, Junior went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad for a short period of time. He then got a permit to work at the Mill, which was known at the time as, Ingham Lumber Mill, doing whatever his age would allow. He worked there for 46 years and three different owners before retiring from Gregory Forest Products in Glendale in 1989.

Junior was only away from the mill for two years, when he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. Junior served for two years in the Artillery Division. He was stationed at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Washington, guarding the heavy artillery.

In 1957, he married Wilma Brown in Reno, Nevada and they made their home in Glendale. They were blessed with four sons and later with four grandsons and a granddaughter. Junior’s sons and grandkids were the light of his life.

Junior was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Junior was preceded in death by son, Glen and is survived by wife, Wilma; sons, Richard, Bobby and Kenny; grandchildren, Brett, Miles, Colten, Chasen and Christa; and siblings, Irene Cradock, Virginia McKernan, Jessie Munyon, Jane Graville and Don Munyon.

Graveside services will be held at the Canyonville Masonic Cemetery on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 1pm. A celebration of life and potluck to immediately follow at the Glendale Elementary School.
