Carolina Van Der Vliet

Carolina van der Vliet, age 81, of Grants Pass, died Monday, May 7, 2012 at Laurel Hill Nursing Center.

No services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Carolina was born August 27, 1930 in Hilversum, Holland. She was the youngest of five children. Through family friends, she met Jack van der Vliet, a tool and die maker, while he was serving in the Air Force in Holland. After their marriage in Holland, she was a homemaker. Together they moved to South Africa for nine years while he furthered his trade. They then moved to Santa Monica, California where they lived for five years and their only child, Maya was born June 4, 1958. As a family they lived in Canoga Park, California where Jack made surgical instrument designs and Carolina raised their daughter and cared for the home. They moved from Thousand Oaks, California to Grants Pass, Oregon over 20 years ago.

While living in Southern California, they were members of a Dutch Club where they danced on weekends.

Her hobbies included water skiing, camping, reading, crocheting, puzzles, and traveling.

Survivors include a daughter, Maya Maneker of Grants Pass, Oregon; a sister, Netti Hekkenberg of Holland; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack van der Vliet; one sister; and two brothers.
