Carol Ann Purtzer

Carol Ann Purtzer, age 83, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, February 8, 2014 at her home.

A memorial mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Our Lady of the River in Rogue River. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to the American Red Cross.

Carol was born April 25, 1930 in Hettinger, North Dakota. She grew up in Hettinger and in 1948 graduated from Hettinger High School where she was a salutatorian. She then worked in a bank for a year before moving to Oregon with her aunt in 1950. In 1953 she graduated from Sacred Heart Nursing School in Eugene with a nursing degree. After moving to Long Beach, California she met and in 1954 married Dr Frank Purtzer. Together they moved to Grants Pass in 1955.

Carol was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church.

Her hobbies included gardening and skiing.

Survivors include her husband, Dr Frank Purtzer of Grants Pass, Oregon; a daughter, Zoe Purtzer of Portland, Oregon; four sons, Dr Thomas Purtzer of Central Point, Oregon, Jerome Purtzer of Puyallup, Washington, Dr Daniel Purtzer of Redding, California and Kenneth Purtzer of Grants Pass, Oregon; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Chinn in 1992.
