Byron Owen "Bo" Staples Jr.

Byron Owen “Bo” Staples Jr., age 91, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at his home.

No services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Bo was born April 4, 1921 in Lemoyne, Nebraska to Byron O. Staples Sr. and Ella Lucy Staples. At 13 years of age he moved to a neighboring ranch and took over as foreman. His family later moved to Garibaldi, Oregon where he became a timber faller. During World War II he served in the United States Navy and on August 22, 1942 in Whidbey Island, Washington he married Beulah Mae Harris. They moved to Redding, California where he worked at the family’s lumber mill. In 1950 he moved his family to Grants Pass and worked as a logger/timber faller for Spalding & Son and Rondeau & Pike. At the age of 57 he retired and spent his remaining years taking care of his “New Hope School” property.

He was a former member of Charlie Brown Squares.

His hobbies included pinochle, camping at the Oregon Coast, mule deer and elk hunting, spending time with family, working in his yard, vegetable gardening and canning his crop and other fruits.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Peterson of Chiloquin, Oregon and Connie Gates of Grants Pass; a sister, Ella Lou Staples of Grants Pass; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Beulah, four brothers, two sisters and his parents.
