Boyd D. Smith, age 79, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Applegate House of Grants Pass.

No local services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Boyd was born July 14, 1934 in Anton, Texas to Wallace & Myrtle Smith. In 1952 while living in Woodburn, Oregon he enlisted in the United States Air Force and in 1956 was honorably discharge as a senior airman. On November 5, 1955 in Ramstein, Germany he married Louise Kaahui. He worked as a correctional officer and traffic officer for the State of California. He also had various entrepreneurial pursuits. In 2008 he moved from Crescent City, California to Grants Pass.

Boyd was a member of the Elks Lodge in Crescent City and the American Legion in Gasquet, California.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, traveling, and winters in Arizona.

Boyd is survived by his wife, Louise K. Smith of Grants Pass, Oregon; two daughters, Lani Crockett of Crescent City, California and Kelly Watanabe and husband Duane of Wailuku, Hawaii; four brothers, Wayburn Smith and wife Hiroko of Crescent City, California, Leslie Smith and wife Glenda of Ochelata, Oklahoma, Darryl Smith and wife Nyeeta of Altus, Oklahoma, and Larry Smith of Prospect, Oregon; two sisters, Joann Patterson and husband Don of Susanville, California and Brenda Boyette and husband Ronnie of St. Maries, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Tara, Victoria, Leilani, Mason, Lily, Ransom, and Taylor; five great-grandchildren, David BrookLynn, Sal, Danica, and Jaydn.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brooke in 2009; twin great-grandsons; a brother, Norman; a sister, Jeanette Turner and his parents.
