Bonnie O'Leary

Carol Lavonne “Bonnie” (Hoots) O’Leary of Grants Pass, died March 2, 2017 at her home.

She was born May 9, 1928, in Denver, Colorado to her parents Isaac R. Hoots and Hattie Edna (Beery) Hoots, longtime residents of Denver.

She attended local schools in Denver and graduated from South Denver High School with the Class of 1947. Shortly thereafter she met and married Harold Keith O’Leary of Grants Pass, Oregon who was serving in the Air Force at nearby Lowry AFB as an Instructor in the Personnel Office Course. In 1949 their son Dennis was born at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in nearby Aurora, Colorado. Later her daughter Kelly Roslyn Lokelani O’Leary was born at Tripler Army Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii while her husband was assigned to Hickam Air Force Base.

She accompanied her husband to Hawaii, Spain, and twice to Washington D.C. on two occasions including his retirement in the Pentagon. She was also employed in the Pentagon as a Civil Service Test Examiner with the Department of the Army Personnel Office. When her husband retired, she returned with him and their children to Grants Pass, Oregon.

She was employed by the Siskiyou National Forest in Grants Pass working in property control until she retired in 1989 at which time she joined her husband in forming a gem and jewelry business. As a team, she and her husband travelled throughout the Western U.S. doing selected gem and jewelry shows before retiring again after selling their business to their daughter Kelly.

Interment will be private. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Grants Pass, 203 SE 9th Street, Grants Pass, Oregon 97526.

She is survived by her husband Harold K. O’Leary of Grants Pass; her son Dennis Harold O’Leary of El Paso, Texas; her daughter Kelly Roslyn Lokelani O’Leary of Redding, California; her sister Mabel Eileen (Hoots) Schwindaman of Westminster, Colorado; her grandson Shane Michael O’Leary of Fairbanks, Alaska; her granddaughter Shannon Michelle O’Leary of Cedar Park, Texas; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
