Billie Jo Gill, age 89, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at an adult foster home.

Private services will be held. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

She was born December 18, 1920 in Charleston, West Virginia. In West Virginia, she graduated from high school and college where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. During World War II she served in the United States Air Force as a W.A.S.P. She worked as a registered nurse for 32 years including in Alaska where she was also a bush pilot and as a pilot flew to remote areas in Alaska to give medical care and she later moved to Massachusetts where she also worked until her retirement in 1972. She later lived in Washington, Wyoming, and California before moving to Oregon 15 years ago.

Her hobbies included fishing, hunting, mountain climbing, and ice climbing.

Survivors include a son, Jeff Gill of Grants Pass, Oregon; three grandchildren, Geoff Gill (Rochelle) of Central Point, Oregon, Keely Gill (Dane) of Kona, Hawaii, and Kayla Gill (Mike McKellar) of Grants Pass, Oregon; and two great-grandchildren, Ehukai Gill-Miner of Kona, Hawaii and Taylon Gill of Grants Pass, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Gill in 1965.
