Bill Smyth

December 25, 1948 — March 26, 2012

Death, you are but a thin veil
That my sweet passage
Lifts up
On my journey
To my beloved

BILL SMYTH, 63, beloved husband of Lehana (Lorna) and beloved father of Roshan, Roman, Hannah and Kaylan, passed at home this March 26th 2012. So full of love and life, compassion and gentleness, always with a smile to offer and a twinkle in his blue eyes, we are heartbroken at his sudden passing. Born in Linz, Austria to James Gabriel Smyth and Margarete Kral on Christmas Day 1948, he spent much of his childhood in Europe and in Media, Pennsylvania. He met and married Lehana on Nov. 11th 1976 in London, and in April 1977, they moved to the States and settled in Denver, Colorado, for 11 years, raising their four young children, before moving west to Grants Pass, Oregon in 1988.

Bill ran his Mountain Man Nut & Fruit business in Grants Pass and Medford for 24 years, making a wonderful following of loyal customers that he loved and cared for dearly. He wrote books of poetry that expressed a deep, wonderful, spiritual, playful, creative soul. Words cannot express his love for his wife and children. They were his world. And he loved his garden, another world to bathe in the beauty of the divine.

He is survived by his wife Lehana and children, his sister Julie & brother-in-law Steve Hartel, niece Kristina and nephew Matthew, of Clarksboro, N.J., his sister Kathleen Hess, brother-in-law Harvey Jr, nieces Emily and Krista and nephew Harvey Jr. III of Kitty Hawk, N.C.

We wish to thank all family and friends for their kindness, prayers and support; Bill’s Mountain Man customers for all their love, well wishes and prayers; and Lovejoy Hospice for their wonderful care.

Memorial Services will be held at Hull & Hull, 612 NW A Street, Grants Pass, on Saturday, April 14th 2012 at 2:00 pm.
