"Bill" Leslie William Jantzer

January 27, 1932 — April 1, 2008

Leslie William (Bill) Jantzer passed away on April 1, 2008 at the age of 76.

Born to Bill and Berniece Jantzer in Grants Pass on Jan. 27, 1932, he lived in Azalea and attended Glendale Schools. He moved to Grants Pass when he was 14 and graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1949. He married Beverly Johnston in 1950 and attended Oregon State University. They had 2 daughters, Eloise and Shirley. This marriage ended in divorce. He later married Colleen Bolton in 1963 and had 2 daughters, Kelly and Terri.

He was in the logging business for 42 years starting as a partner with his father in Jantzer Logging. His brother, Jack, later joined them as a partner in the business. His other business ventures included Janco logging and Evergreen Hauling.

He was a lifetime member of Pacific International Trapshooting Association, American Trapshooting Association and the Medford Gun Club. He achieved AA class and won many trapshooting championships.
He was also a lifetime member of the Elks Club. He was a member of the Oregon Caveman where he met Colleen, who was Cave Queen and who became his wife of 45 years. He was a founding member and board member of Southern Oregon Timber Industries. He was a member of Aircraft Owner’s and Pilots Association. He learned to fly when he was 30 and owned several airplanes. His interest in flying started during WWII when he was a volunteer plane spotter in his community as a teenager.

He was an avid hunter most of his life; His trophys included elk, deer and antelope. He enjoyed many motorhome trips with his family, going across the United Stated, and to Mexico & Canada. Most recently his hobby was woodworking, and he made most of the cabinets and furniture in his home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Eloise Richardson of Aloha, Oregon, Shirley Welburn of White City, Kelly Schneiderhan of Eugene and Terri Lee of Grants Pass, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amanda Welburn, and by his brother Jack.

A visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2008 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2008 at Hull & Hull Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Grants Pass.
