Barbara Braly Bernhart, age 86, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at her home.

A viewing will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2014, at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors with a recitation of the rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m.

A funeral mass will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014, at St. Anne Catholic Church with Father William Holtzinger officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Remembrances may be made to the Pregnancy Care Center, 714 SE 8th Street, Grants Pass, Oregon 97526.

Barbara was born May 2, 1928, in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from Marlboro High School in Los Angeles and attended the University of Southern California. On June 6, 1949 in Beverly Hills she married Paul C. Bernhart. She lived in Newport Beach and was an Orange County resident until 1982, when she moved to Grants Pass. She worked briefly as a real estate agent before her retirement.

Barbara was a Master Gardener. She loved to travel and spend time at the Oregon Coast and the family cabin in Big Bear, California. She was an avid reader, especially history and enjoyed gardening and her cows. She loved visitors and was very socially active. While raising her granddaughter, she was involved in Girl Scouts and equestrian activities.

Barbara is survived by four daughters, Merill Plou of Newport Coast, California, Carol Wood of Poway, California, Tracy Neff of Costa Mesa, California, and Barbara Tamashiro of Grants Pass, Oregon; two sons, John Bernhart and Tom Bernhart, both of Grants Pass, Oregon; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bernhart in 1991, and her son, Paul Bernhart Jr in 2012.
