Avis Laurel Van Hoy

Avis Laurel Van Hoy, age 88, of Eagle Point, died Monday, October 6, 2008 at Providence Medford Medical Center.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Hull & Hull Chapel.

She was born July 19, 1920 in Casper, Wyoming to Amos & Edith Osborne. In the mid 1930s she moved with her family from Wyoming to Rogue River and in 1939 graduated from Rogue River High School. On June 1, 1941 in Gold Hill she married Victor Lawrence Van Hoy. She was past treasurer for the City of Rogue River. From 1950 to 1969 she lived in Central Point where she was a librarian for the City of Central Point and secretary at Jewett Elementary School and Mae Richardson Elementary School. From 1969 to 1983 she lived in Klamath Falls. In 1983 she returned to Rogue River where she lived until moving to Eagle Point in 1997.

Avis served on the board of directors for Woodville Museum where she was a member and volunteer.

Her hobbies included bowling, traveling, oil painting, sewing, knitting, and reading.

Survivors include her daughter, Edith Sherman (Leon) of Eagle Point; a son Earl Van Hoy of Central Point; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Victor Lawrence Van Hoy on October 21, 1988 and by brother Calvin Osborne in 1955.
