Asae Speer

Asae Speer, age 95, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, September 3, 2016 at her home.

She was born August 2, 1921 in Tokyo, Japan. On August 23, 1946 in Yokohama, Japan she married William Randolph Speer and in 1948 she came to the United States. After her husband’s retirement as a professor in 1987, they moved from El Centro, California to Grants Pass. She was a homemaker.

Asae was best known for her temari – Japanese thread balls, which she sold at local growers and crafters markets.

Survivors include three sons, Randy Speer of Atlanta, Georgia, Howard Speer of Wasilla, Alaska, and Gordon Speer of Spokane Valley, Washington; a daughter, Hannah Christel of Grants Pass, Oregon; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Speer on December 10, 1994.

Private services will be held. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
