Arlo M Hummell

March 29, 1931 — March 2, 2012

Arlo M Hummell, age 80, of Grants Pass passed away on Friday, March 2, 2012 in the comfort of his home with his faithful dog by his side.

Arlo was born March 29, 1931 in Lee County, Iowa to Guy and Geneva Hummell. In 1951 he entered the United States Air Force where he met his wife and life long love, Marilyn Pfeil, at Norton Air Force Base after he returned from the Korean War. In 1954 they were married and moved to Iowa. He later moved to Southern California and then to Reno, Nevada in 1963 where he raised his family. He worked for AT&T until his retirement in the 1980’s. He and his wife retired to La Pine, Oregon, and later moved to Grants Pass, Oregon where they enjoyed the remainder of their days.

Arlo was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he had many stories to tell of his exploits. Growing up, his children never knew what was being served for dinner. He was a true outdoorsman. Moving to Grants Pass, he changed from hunting, to enjoying the variety of animals and nature in the area where he so enjoyed living. He took up his old Iowa roots of farming, gardening, and visiting with his neighbors and friends. By his side was his most loved companion since the death of his wife, his maltese, Bunny.

His family and friends will miss him but can take comfort in knowing he is back with the love of his life, Marilyn.

He is survived by three children, Marcia Olson of Reno, Nevada, Terri Cole of Kennewick, Washington, and Roy Hummell of Bellevue, Washington. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Hummell, her parents and his brother Wilbur Hummell.

A graveside service with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to Morris Animal Foundation, 10200 East Girard Avenue, Suite B430, Denver, Colorado 80231 or to the charity of the donors choice.
