Alvin "Slick" Elmer

Alvin 'Slick' Elmer, age 81, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at a local foster care home.

No services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

He was known to friends and family as Slick, was a World War II Veteran. He was born August 9th 1927 on the family farm twelve miles SW of Newport, WA to Maude Lomoreaux Genks and William Elmer. He has one surviving brother John Elmer of Ukiah, CA and two sisters, Ethel Miller of Potter Valley, CA and Mylenia 'Teenie' Persyn of Newport, WA. Slick was the youngest of 11 children. His siblings that proceeded him in death are brothers Walter, Albert, Joe, Dave, Ed and Byron and sister Mildred. Slick lived most of his years in Central Nevada. He was a man of many traits. One of them was mining, he owned mining property and managed various operations. Slick liked to hunt, fish, and work with horses. He spent some of his years being a Sadle Bronc Rider. Slick was also a professional mandolin guitar player, he was always asked to play at the gatherings. Slick was a simple man and was loved by many. He will be missed, but never forgotton.
