Alvin J. Brenhaug

Alvin J. Brenhaug , age 64, of Wolf Creek, died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at his home.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 7, 2012 at Wolf Creek Community Alliance with Pastor Brian Crawford officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Alvin was born August 24, 1948 in Roseau, Minnesota to Peter & Dorothy (Pommerenning) Brenhaug. He worked on the family dairy farm until he was 13 years old. He later moved to Central Point and was drafted into the United States Army while a senior in Medford. In 1966 he went to Fort Lewis for basic training, then to Fort Bragg for Green Beret training. In 1967 he served in the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Silver Star, two Purple Heart Campaign ribbons, rescued POW’s, was a ”tunnel rat” and a shotgunner for convoys. He contracted malaria three times; in 1969 he was a soldier on the Berlin Wall; in 1970 he was a soldier on “Tomb of the Unknown Soldier”; in 1972 he was a Drill Sergeant at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was honorably discharged in 1979. He met and married Sandra Berg 28 years ago after a “Parents Without Partners” dance in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 2009 he moved from Prospect to Wolf Creek.

As a volunteer he taught hunters safety for 19 years and also volunteered as a fireman in Prospect and Wolf Creek.

He especially enjoyed hunting and logging with his friend Scott Burcham.

Survivors include his wife Sandra K. (Berg) Brenhaug of Wolf Creek; step children, Tony Paron, Jon Paron, Dan Paron and Tamara Fahley; three sisters, Janet Sykes, Doris Brenhaug and Cindy Hardaway; a brother, Wallace Brenhaug and four step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Rich Hardaway.
