Alice H. Shepard, age 93, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, November 15, 2012 at her home.

No services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Alice was born March 5, 1919 in Omaha, Nebraska to William & Johannah Standeven. She grew up in Omaha and graduated from North High School where she played on the state championship volleyball team. She then attended college night classes where she studied secretarial subjects. On June 5, 1938 in Omaha she married Theodore Erwin Shepard. In 1939 she moved from Nebraska to Los Angeles, California. During the 1950s she worked as a Los Angeles county tax assessor and assessing personal property. In the 1960s she started work as a traveling clerk for Los Angeles County Health Department with a base office in Torrance until 1972. In 1973 she moved from California to Grants Pass. During the 1980s she worked as a PBX switchboard operator for Southern Oregon Medical Center and Josephine Memorial Hospital.

In Long Beach, California she was a member of Chamber of Commerce, PTA, and the MMM Dance Club and also served as a Brownie leader. After moving to Grants Pass, she was a member of a pinochle group.

Her hobbies included riding dirt bikes in the desert; river fishing for trout; sewing; crossword puzzles; playing the Skipbo card game; reading; and shopping. She especially loved her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Sally Shepard of Yorba Linda, California and Teddy Shepard and Nancy Campbell both of Grants Pass, Oregon; a son, Richard Shepard of Huntington Beach, California; a sister, Virginia Shepard of Buena Park, California; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Shepard; ; a son, Larry Shepard; a sister, Dorothy Hammer; and a brother, Jackie Standeven.
