Alexander Szabo, age 74, of Grants Pass, Oregon died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 7, 2010 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 909 NE A Street, Grants Pass, Oregon. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, Attn: Memorial/Honor Program PH, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland OR 97201.

Alexander was born June 5, 1935 in Budapest, Hungary to Dr. Sandor Szabo & Ilona (Fotyi) Szabo. In 1956, at the age of 21, he fled Hungary during the Budapest uprising and resided in Los Angeles. For 30 years he was a contract negotiator for the Department of Water & Power for the City of Pasadena. He retired in 1992. In 1997 he moved from Studio City, California to Grants Pass, Oregon.

Survivors include his wife, Elva “Jerri” Szabo of Grants Pass; two daughters, Kathleen Powell and Diane Szabo, both of Grants Pass, Oregon; a son, John Szabo of Medford, Oregon; three step-daughters, Brenda Lloyd of Eugene, Oregon, Geri Thorsteinsson and Alana Issler, both of Calgary Alberta, Canada; a sister, Katlin Toth of Sherman Oaks, California; a brother, Nicholas Szabo of Sherman Oaks, California; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
