Alberta R. Cates

Alberta R. Cates, age 84, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at her home.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., March 1, 2010 at Redwood Christian Church with Pastor Kristen Daniels officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Alberta was born July 1, 1925 in Redondo Beach, California to Woodson & Kate Reed. On August 15, 1943 she married Thomas E. Cates. She moved from California to Grants Pass over 50 years ago.

Alberta was a part of the “Sunshine Girls” bowling league at the Caveman Bowl. She enjoyed watching television, especially game shows like “The Price is Right.”

Survivors include two grandsons, James Evans and Andy Cates both of Grants Pass; three granddaughters, Patricia Bozhilov of Grants Pass, Bethany Matheson of Idaho and Desiree Cates/ Davis of Grants Pass; her caregiver, Patricia Marlatt of Grants Pass; two sisters, Dorothy Maakestad of Citrus Heights, California and Winnie Taylor of Placerville, California; four brothers, Fred Reed and Bob Reed both of Grants Pass, Jim Reed of Vancouver, Washington and Wally Reed of Oceanside, California; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Berta Jean Evans in 2004; a grandson, Tony Evans in 2002; a son, Thomas Levi Cates in 1992; and her husband, Thomas Edmond Cates in 1985.
