Albert Lawrence Hansen

June 19, 1931 — January 19, 2013

Albert Hansen, 81, of Hugo, OR, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013, at his home due to cancer.
He was born June 19, 1931, to Harry and Dorothy Hansen in Mankato, MN, the 6th of 7 children. In 1940, the whole family moved to Riverside, CA.
He graduated and served in the U.S. Army Air Force in the 1940s. Al also served in the U.S. Navy, stationed on the island of Guam and in San Diego, CA, from June, 1952, to May, 1956. He achieved the rank of First Class Petty Officer and was an instrument repairman in special artificers.
On May 27, 1952, he married Betty Louise Mellard, in Pomona, CA. Last year they celebrated 60 years of marriage.
After the Navy, he worked at Fred Stevens Office Machines for several years. Then for many years, he owned and operated ABC Business Machines in Upland, CA.
In 1968, the family moved to Hugo, OR, where he built his family's country home. Al owned and operated two home construction and subdividing companies, Diamond Point Villages, Inc. and College Heights, inc., retiring in 1986.
He had many hobbies during his life, such as ice and roller skating and sledding in Minnesota. In OR, he was an accomplished salmon fisherman on the Rogue River for 44 years and a substitute river guide. He also was an incredible bowler getting a perfect 300 several times. For 11 years, he owned a private plane and was a pilot with instrument rating. He loved flying all over the west coast.
Al was a member of 3 senior bowling leagues in Grants Pass, and the Optimist Club and the Elks Club in Pomona, CA.
Al's family remembers him as a loving family man who was honest, hardworking and generous. Later in life, he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord, so he is at peace in heaven now, reunited with his loved ones who preceded him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Sr., and Dorothy Hansen; 3 brothers, Bud, Harry Jr., and Walter Hansen; and a sister, Viola Ewen.
Al is survived by his three children, Linda Harris of Beaverton, OR; Sandra Huff of Grants Pass, OR; and Ray Hansen of Grants Pass, OR; one sister, Elaine Bade of Tyler, TX; and one brother, Jep Hansen, of Soldotna, AK; four grandchildren, Jeremy Huff, Tiffany Nyseth, Priscilla Asche and Shelby Hansen; one great grandaughter, Brittany; and many nieces and nephews.
Private family services have been held.
We loved him so much, and he will be forever in our hearts.
