Albert "Dean" Chanley

Albert “Dean” Chanley, 70, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at Laurel Hill Nursing Center.

Private family services will be held. Southern Oregon Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.

He was born on March 28, 1937 in Grants Pass, Oregon to Albert and Edna (Roberts) Chanley. He attended Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, California. He served in the U S Air Force in the 47th bomb wing after his training at Parks Air Force Base. From 1955 to 1957 he was stationed overseas in England at Sculthorpe Air Force Base. After his discharge, he returned to Bakersfield. He met his wife, Poppy Elizabeth Clark in England and they were married on August 10, 1957 in Maldon, Essex, England. They later divorced in 1970. He worked for Chanley Brothers Trucking in Bakersfield. He also worked in Carissa Plains, California, just outside Bakersfield for his mom and dad at Superior Gypsum Company. He moved to Paso Robles, California and in 1969 moved to Grants Pass. He went to work for School District 7 as a bus mechanic and caveman camper. He retired in 1977.

He enjoyed looking at wildflowers in the woods, sitting on the Robertson Bridge boat landing to watch the jet boats. He also enjoyed rock hounding, mechanics and building stuff.

Survivors include his long time companion, Mary Silver of Grants Pass; his two daughters, Sharon M. DeLay of Grants Pass; and Mary Ann Ford of Sand Point, Idaho; two sons, Patrick J. Chanley of Yachats, Oregon; and Melvin Dean Chanley of Grants Pass; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his son, Albert Louis Chanley.
