Abigail Eileen Goff

Abigail Eileen Goff, age 94, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at her son’s home.

A viewing will be from 12 noon to 12:45 p.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Savage Street Building Relief Society Room.

A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Savage Street Building with Bishop Monte Sharp officiating. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Abigail was born June 17, 1915 in Grandin, North Dakota to Carey & Mary (Jones) Murdock. She graduated from Grandin High School where she played basketball and her team won a state championship. In 1935 she moved from Grandin to Grants Pass. She played piano with Homer Goff’s Orchestra and then married Homer on June 10, 1939 in Crescent City, California. She was mostly a homemaker and over the years she also worked as a self-employed seamstress, at her brother’s print shop, and at Hull & Hull Funeral Home.

She was a member of Etna Rebekah Lodge #49 and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Beacon Hill Ward. For the church she sewed costumes for their dance festivals.

She enjoyed caring for the elderly and cared for Anna and Flora Schmidt in their last years. She also enjoyed genealogy and wrote her own personal history.

Her hobbies included caring for her grandchildren; making dolls, bears and Barbie clothes; sewing; and gardening. Throughout the years, she remodeled her own house from time to time.

Survivor include two sons, Vinton Goff of Claresholm, Alberta, Canada and Orla Goff of Grants Pass; eight grandchildren, Diane Erickson of Utah, Keith Latimer of Washington, Becky Hiller of Washington, Xanna Smith of Colorado, Jami Crider of North Carolina, Robert Goff of Oregon, Stacy Crapo of Pennsylvania and Tammy Cofield of Oregon; 22 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Homer Goff in 1983; a daughter, Ellen Jeane (Latimer) Conger in 1999 and a granddaughter, Sandra Lorraine Johnson in 2005.
