Gloria Edmon

May 15, 1928 — June 20, 2017

Gloria Edmon knocked on heaven’s door Tuesday June 20th, 2017 in Grants Pass, Oregon. She was 89 glorious years old. She had made Grants Pass her home since 1979.

Gloria Charlotte Blair was born May 15, 1928 in Augusta, Maine to Ernest Edward Blair, and Helen Burkett Nowell Blair. She was raised in Waterville, Maine. She attended Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine where she met her first husband Glenn D Campbell. Gloria was always game for adventure, so as a young mom to 3 year old Carla, Gloria & Glenn, along with 4 other couples caravanned from Maine to the territory of Alaska in 1952. They took 5 weeks to travel the continent to their new home in Anchorage. They had planned on staying two or three years. Almost 30 years and 3 grown daughters later they retired from Anchorage to Rogue River, Oregon. Gloria loved camping and fishing and especially their lake cabin on Long Lake in Willow, Alaska.

Gloria married for the second time on July 1, 2006 to Don Edmon, where they spent many happy years together in Grants Pass.

Gloria delighted in her family and their antics and accomplishments. One of her first memories was of her grandmother’s garden which sparked a lifelong love of gardening. No matter where she lived, she was always cultivating flowers of some kind. Gloria enjoyed reading, knitting, playing cards, and serving others. She was always willing to lend a listening ear.
Gloria is survived by her 3 daughters Carla Archer (Stan), Paula Pettijohn (Tom), and Glenna Dole. She leaves her grandchildren Ryan Tennis, Jared & Matthew Mattson, Zachary Jones, Glenn, Adam and Lanse Pettijohn, Kasey Roberts, Blair Cottrell, Caitlin Hatley, Courtney Breedlove, Alana Villagomez, Catherine Dole, and Alexander Dole. She leaves 26 darling great grandchildren. She also leaves her brother Clyde Simmons ( Leslie) of North Carolina, along with many beloved nieces and nephews in Maine.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Donald D. Edmon, brothers John, Robert and Richard Blair and her parents Ernest Blair and Helen Nowell Simmons.

Gloria’s funeral service will be held at St Luke’s Episcopal Church, Grants Pass, Oregon on Wednesday June 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm. She will be laid to rest in the columbarium at St Luke’s.
The celebration of life will be officiated by the Reverend Mary Piper
